8 ways to promote your business online today

In this economic climate you have to cut costs and one of the most popular areas to cut costs in is marketing. Why? Because it’s very easy to market yourself online, for free!
1. Twitter
Setup a Twitter account and start posting interesting or useful ‘tweets’. Start engaging and connecting with other Twitterers from your area. We discussed the best techniques for using Twitter for businesses recently.
2. Facebook
Setup a Facebook fan page and let people on Facebook become fans of your business. Keep them up to date with the latest news and offers, ask for feedback, engage with your community. You can even ask your current friends to become fans of your page.
3. Bebo
Although Facebook is more popular, there is still a strong Bebo presence, especially in Northern Ireland and particularly for younger/teenagers. Add friends, update your status regularly to reflect what’s happening in your business.
4. Google Local
Google is the most powerful and popular search engine on the web so you want to ensure your business details show up when people are searching for your service. You can setup a Google Local business profile very easily.
5. LinkedIn
LinkedIn lets you connect with people on a professional level. A useful networking tool and for keeping your professional contacts up-to-date with what you’re doing.
6. Blog
Start a blog and start blogging on a daily or weekly basis and offer tips on areas that you are an expert in but that others may not know. Both WordPress and Blogger allow you to setup free accounts.
Also consider guest blogging for other blogs. Write a useful post about your practice that you think will be useful and well received, then submit it to high profile blog owners. At Lookaly we are always on the look out for guest bloggers so feel free to contact us.
7. Show your web address
Assuming you already have a website, make sure people know about it. Add it to your email signature, put it on your business cards, put it on the side of your van, put it on your menu. People won’t know about your website unless you tell them about it.
8. Add yourself to local directories
Lookaly lets you advertise your business for free by setting up a branded web page on our site. Simply by asking customers to rate & review your business, you can make your way up to the top of the listings.
